“The ambition is to create the foundation for the establishment of Gellerup Højskole as a traditional Danish folk high school, with a primary focus on young individuals aged 18 to 30 in the transitional phase between their secondary education and further studies. The vision of the people involved is for the future high school to accommodate 120 students in long-term courses and serve as a hub for week-long courses, conferences, and a wide range of inclusive and outward-facing activities within the community. The concept is centered around the belief that a reinterpretation of the classic Danish Grundtvigian folk high school, located in the heart of Gellerup, can offer something truly unique. The aim is to foster sustainable cohesion, which the organizers perceive as a crucial need. The initial folk high schools played a pivotal role in shaping Danish democracy, and the board members strongly believe that they can revitalize bridge-building and collective empowerment in Gellerup. The school will be situated amidst more than 80 nationalities, a multitude of cultures, and diverse worldviews, creating a vibrant tapestry of community life.” (quoted from Gellerup Højskoles website, my translation)

“Gellerup Folk High School's Assembly House is for young people aged 18 to 30 from all over Aarhus. In the assembly house, we offer exciting workshops, lively concerts, and creative communal dining events while we await the establishment of Gellerup Folk High School. At Gellerup Assembly House, we inspire and motivate each other to create interpersonal cohesion through fun, creative, and educational events for young people in the neighborhood and the rest of Aarhus. We believe that education and sustainable communities emerge through shared responsibility and co-authorship. We discuss significant topics such as climate, ethics, and democratic empowerment. Together, we challenge what we think we already know. We dance and listen to music. We dine together and get to know each other better. Gellerup Assembly House is a vibrant venue for all young individuals aged 18 to 30 who wish to make lasting impressions while paving the way for Gellerup Folk High School.” (quoted from Gellerup Højskoles website, my translation)
